Local Law 152
What is New York City's Local Law 152?
New York City's Local Law 152 is a regulation that mandates an inspection of a building's gas lines every four years. Whether a property must comply with this law depends on its occupancy group classification, but typically, large buildings are among those covered.
In this inspection, which must be performed by a master plumber or a direct employee thereof, gas lines are inspected for leaks. A combustible gas meter is also used to detect the presence of natural gas in the inspected area. If the gas lines pass, the plumber has to submit a Local Law 152 inspection report. The report must be submitted within 60 days. The penalty for failing to get an inspection is $10,000.
If problems are found, the master plumber can perform repairs. Be sure to get any issues fixed right away to reduce the risk of gas-related disasters.
